Tarptautinio atominio laiko atžvilgiu jis turi skirtis sveiką sekundžių skaičių. Todėl kartą per metus (gruodžio 31 d. arba birželio 30 d.) para pailginama viena sekunde. 2004 m. skirtumas tarp tarptautinio atominio laiko ir suderintojo pasaulinio laiko buvo lygus 32 s.
